I was offered the opportunity to try Freekeh complimentary from
+Fit Approach, LLC
I got my packages from them and was anxious to try them.
So, your first thought (as was mine) is probably "What is Freekeh???"
Their description is as follows:
"
Freekeh is a process which means “to rub” in Arabic. Freekeh was created by accident nearly 2,000 years ago when a Middle Eastern village was attacked and their crop of young green wheat was set ablaze. Most folks would sulk over their misfortune, but the crafty villagers rubbed off the chaff, cooked it up and “Eureka!” Freekeh was created. We’re proud to offer you this tasty, nutritious ancient grain with a funny name. *NOT GLUTEN FREE*
Freekeh has up to three times the fiber and protein found in brown rice, and fewer calories than quinoa and white rice. Freekeh is a great choice to use in recipes you already enjoy, from salads, to soups, to main dishes—the cook times are comparable to brown rice, so it’s easy to choose Freekeh!"

It comes in multiple flavors: Original, Tamari, and Rosemary Sage
From those 3 flavors, I got original and the choice of a second. I chose Rosemary Sage.
My package came in the mail with the 2 bags and then a bunch of coupons for me to send out to people. As an extreme coupon lover; I was pretty excited about this!!!!!
I struggled for a while to decide how I was going to be creative with a recipe; I mean after all there are so many rice "substitutes" lately that it's all been done. I have been big into homemade everything lately; and had a little bit of homemade apple sauce left. I left the chunks in the apple sauce so it was more like spiced apples. I made a version of what I am calling apple crisp. It was actually delicious! I loved that it had extra fiber and protein which kept me fuller longer. I used the original flavor, btw! I got the close up too!
I would totally recommend this to others in the future!! #LoveFreekeh
